Sock-hoppin’ in ‘05

My legs are always naked in the summer.

Yes, you heard me right.

Over the past three months, I’ve come out of bed fully dressed in a skirt and flip-flops. But sadly, summer is on its way out, and it’s taking my favorite ensemble with it. This year, thanks to a good friend, I’ve found a loophole. So ladies, don’t pack away the flip- flops just yet. I’ve got a way you can wear them clear into October.

I spent last Thursday afternoon with my friend Kelly Jean. We were running errands, and she asked if we could swing by the mall to pick up tube socks from Journeys.

“Tube socks?” I thought to myself, “Kel’s not a 70-year old man. What does she want with tube socks?” I asked her why, and she said with a laugh, “It’s a Long Island thing.”

Always up for a fashion challenge, I simply had to experiment with this trend. I couldn’t get the tube socks out of my mind. I kept visualizing them with sneakers, pumps and flip-flops. Finally, I asked her, “How do you wear them anyway?” Again, she laughed and explained, “Well, I cut the toes out, and then slip on a pair of sandals. Oh, and they really look cute with a denim skirt.”

I got a mental picture, and I was all about it.

Although you can probably find tube socks in your father’s dresser drawer, Journeys sells them in packs of five for only $8.95. And because they’re offered in both bright and pastel colors, there’s a pair to match any outfit imaginable.
