Local Flavor
If Knoxville is a cupcake, what flavor is it? According to Linda Hurst, executive pastry chef of Cities Cupcake Boutique, it is a light orange chiffon topped with melt-in-your-mouth vanilla butter cream frosting and sparkly orange sugar. "The Knoxville" is just one of 17 city-themed cupcakes available at Hurst's cupcake boutique on Kingston Pike. Hurst created the boutique's top 10 city flavors, beginning with Knoxville. (more...)

‘House party
During the fall of 2003, four students from the Bethesda Writer’s Center in D.C. would meet after class at a bar called The Big Hunt. It was during these late evenings, rather than engaging in drunken hookups, that these four intoxicated devotees of pop culture and literature conceived their “magical baby of love.” Their idea was to print a magazine celebrating all that is good about pop culture, hoping to prove that literature can be as much fun as an episode of The O.C., and that they’re shouldn’t be a divide between what is considered elite art —literary classics, the opera, etc.-- and pop culture -- TV, comic books and rock n’ roll. Join the Group
“My Groups” is a facebook feature that allows registered members to join, view or create groups, providing another way to connect by common interest. Each college and university has its own set of groups. For example, Penn State students aren’t able to join, view or create groups at Notre Dame or vice versa because those groups wouldn’t be a part of their branch. (more...)

I am extremely disappointed in the way the University of Tennessee handled the icy weather conditions on Tuesday morning. Although a 2-hour delay was issued, an e-mail informing faculty, staff and students was not sent until 8:23. The first class assembles at 8:10 on Tuesday mornings. (more...)

Student's nephew influences her thoughts of motherhood
Spending time with her nephew has led a University of Tennessee student to realize she will be ready for motherhood someday. Beth McCullah, 22, a junior studying communications, said she always wanted to have children, but it wasn’t until her nephew, Tristen, was born on Nov. 23, 2006, that she knew she was up for the challenge.
